The perfect date situation at Meat Fish Wine, QV

Although Melbourne isn’t really playing along, Summer is well and truly upon us. Time to reflect back on some of the delicious food we ate back in Spring, and what better way to celebrate Spring flavours than with a Taste of Spring experience at the stunning Meat Fish Wine in QV Melbourne.

This was my second time dining at Meat Fish Wine, and both times when I have walked into the venue I have given a little “Wowwwwwww” under my breath (or, on my Snapchat story, because once you see how cool the doors are, you will want to Snapchat them on the way through too!) The elegantly fitted restaurant just screams sophistication, and I always envision it being the perfect date night restaurant. The ambience is perfect, the staff so professional, and the tables spread out enough that you aren’t cramped up against another table which so often happens. The centrepiece of the restaurant, a beautifully lit square fountain adds another layer of beauty to the space.

The dishes we tasted as part of the Taste of Spring menu just happen to perfectly spread into Summer also, and I believe they are still on the current menu at MFW. Light and fresh flavours paired with beautiful plating, this was a stunning degustation with several highlights (Note: the ambience didn’t lend itself as much to camera lighting as it did to mood lighting, so forgive me that these photos don’t do the food justice!)

New season asparagus, sheeps milk yogurt, guanciale
Lime and Ginger Cured Salmon with Watermelon and Cucumber
Pulled pork tortellini, beef marrow consomme, confit garlic
“Snickers” dessert

All dishes were well executed, with careful attention paid to flavour, texture, plating and ensuring that the Spring ingredients were celebrated in each dish; but for me I couldn’t go past the cured salmon with watermelon and cucumber as my favourite dish. Such simplicity, using fresh, crisp flavours made for a memorable dish that felt clean and healthy. The pulled pork tortellini was another highlight- melt in your mouth morsels of pork in a rich and flavoursome broth. With share menus that definitely don’t break the bank, this is the kind of restaurant that is achievable for your next special date night or when you want to impress a loved one or friends. The space, decor, food and service won’t disappoint.

Have a delicious day!
